Lake Louise is stunning, the amazing colour of the lake is caused by glacial flour. We were keen to do more hiking so we did Lake Agnes/Big Beehive, Plain of Six Glaciers and Fairview Mountain. I thought Big Beehive had great views until we hiked Fairview. Fairview was a tough hike, very steep close to the summit but my gosh the views were phenomenal! While in Lake Louise we parked in the Overflow lot, eleven dollars per night with new pit toilets but we could use the facilities at the campground 3km down the road (the overflow lot is not actually in the campground). If you do not need services we would highly recommend using this spot as your base for exploring the Banff & Lake Louise areas and it is open even when the campground is not full.
We also spent two days hiking in the Moraine Lake area; Consolation Lakes, Eifel Lake and Larch Valley up to Sentinel Pass. It felt really good to be doing all this hiking, it is much too easy with this kind of lifestyle to be sedentary. Age is catching up to us though, our knees needed some recovery time between the tough hikes. What is great to see is that on every hike we ran into people older than us, such an inspiration!
