New Mexico, a brief visit-April 2016

We seem to be racing whenever  we get to New Mexico, in November last year we had to race through it to beat some nasty weather and in April we had to race through to get to an appointment in Colorado.  However brief our visit, we have seen enough to know that we want to come back and spend A LOT more time exploring this beautiful state.   We were able to spend a few days in Gila National Forest, where we went to see the cliff dwellings which were very impressive.  We also did a lovely hike (Woody’s Corral) while we were in the area and the free campsites at Scorpion Campground were great and within walking distance to the cliff dwellings.

White Sands National Monument

I really wanted to see the white sand dunes of White Sands National Monument and we had enough time to stop for a couple of hours to drive the loop and walk the boardwalk, it was very hot and blindingly white, it would have been painful to look at these dunes without sunglasses!  As with Gila NF we got a small taste of White Sands and we want to come back for more.
